Wet folding gives the paper works a more realistic appearance adds a rounded quality to the origami and allows it to appear malleable even though the pieces dry into hardened forms. Wet folding is an origami technique developed by akira yoshizawa that employs water to dampen the paper so that it can be manipulated more easily. The technique is called wet folding yet you don t want to wet the paper but rather to only moisten it.
You need to be very familiar with the folding. The paper should not be wet. Choose your origami model and master the folding first.
The first step in this wet fold technique is to make sure that you have the best origami paper. Don t drench it get a water bottle and minimally spray water evenly across the paper holding the bottle about one foot away. Wet folding is used very often by professional folders for non geometric origami such as animals.
Use the right paper. Fold the model quickly with a sure. Practice folding the dry model first.
The paper should not be dripping wet. Once you get the paper wet you will need to fold quickly. Make sure you are very familiar with the folding sequence because you will.
This process adds an element of sculpture to origami which is otherwise purely geometric. Use a spray bottle or a wet cloth to moisten the paper so that it is damp. Spray the sheet with a fine mist from about 30cm away wipe the paper with the cloth to spread moisture evenly and quickly repeat on the other side of the sheet before it curls.
